Cakes by Glorimar is a boutique bakery established in 2013 in Puerto Rico. After watching cake decorating tutorials and videos on youtube, Glorimar thought, 'I can do that!' and began spending any free time she had pursuing cake design. Once she started posting her cakes on Instagram, orders started rolling in, and she knew she was onto something special. Fast forward to all-nighters in her apartment's kitchen working as baker and cake decorator with her best friend Kiara, while pursuing studies in biology and working evenings. Glorimar knew she had a decision to make– play it safe with dentistry or take a leap and enter the professional world of cake design? I think you know her answer.
In those early days, Glorimar was 18 years old, and she needed to make a decision. At that time, she studied biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, while she was searching for pastry schools out of the island. She finished her first year of college, and she decided it was time to move forward and follow her dreams. She moved to Miami to Johnson & Wales University-North Miami Campus and started her career in Baking & Pastry with food, beverage, and management. Glorimar is very persistent and passionate when it comes to life decisions.
Her family and friends have supported her through all the processes. It has not been easy for Glorimar because since she decided to open her first store, Hurricane María arrived. She had to move from one store to another because Hurricane María damaged her first place. Thank God the counters, products, and equipment didn't get hurt. She had to start selling cakes from home again to generate money to pay the bills and rent of the store she never opened. That's when the To Go Cakes were born. They were Glorimar's and all the customers ' live savers.
Finally, Cakes by Glorimar Caguas officially opened its doors on August 25 of 2018, intending to be a space where Glorimar could sell a few sweet treats between wedding cake consultations and work on creating edible works of art in the kitchen made for one. Caguas, it seems, had other plans. With consistent line ups out the door that left the coolers bare, 16-hour days and all-nighters were the norm as we got our footing and found ways to meet the demand of our beloved customers who showed unwavering support and kindness.
On October 31, 2019, finally, Glorimar opened her second store in Cupey, Puerto Rico, offering cake decorating and baking workshops, having her office space and a big storage area. After opening the second store, everything has been a roller coaster again because of the earthquakes and the Pandemic. Nowadays, Glorimar is working on her Online Workshops, cakes for any occasion, sweets, exotic cupcakes, and her famous To Go Cakes. Our Caguas store is currently closed.
